I quietly launched HomeAndPocket.com at the end of 2024—no paid ads, no big announcement. Just a personal mission: to write about money, family, and building a practical, values-driven life.
The goal was simple but deeply personal: to fill a void I felt—the need to start and grow something that was mine.
Being a full-time Soldier, which I both love and take pride in, leaves little time or space for much else.
That’s the nature of the job. Still, I wanted to build something outside the uniform—something lasting, meaningful, and useful to others.
Fast forward six months (and change), and here we are. This post is admittedly overdue—but that’s the beauty of doing things independently. I write when it matters, not just because a calendar says I should.
As I did at the one- and three-month marks, I want to share an overview and behind-the-scenes look at HomeAndPocket.com—how far we’ve come and what’s taking shape.
Let’s dive into the update: views, articles, earnings, what’s working, and where things are headed next.
🧾 By the Numbers – 6-Month Totals
| Metric | Total (First 6–7 Months) |
|---|---|
| Blog Posts Published | 98 (This is #99)! |
| Total Page Views | ~5,700 |
| Monthly Average Traffic | 800 visits |
| Facebook Followers | ~263 (steady growth) |
| Email Subscribers | 41 (just getting started) |
| Total Earnings | $7.84 (Ad revenue) |
| Top Referral Source |

As you can see above, January (my first full month) was, and still is, the highest viewing month.
After that, I experienced steady growth from February through May, until I had to step away due to military requirements.
If things stay on track with article publishing and viewership, August will become my highest viewership month; far exceeding January.

Above: Blogging is not a “Get Rich Quick” scheme. Some influence’s peddle this idea on social media platforms.
Not that I ever started this journey with the hopes of getting rich or making any substantial income.
I still feel it’s important for people to see the “Real” data of monthly income from blogging and using Ads.
I’ve been averaging about $1.00 a month in Ad revenue. I had a significant slump in June and July (due to Military training). but the goal for this year is to maintain about a $0.30 – $0.40 a week in Ad revenue.
As for other sources or revenue, I only use WordAds and have no other source as of now.
🖊️ Most Popular Articles (So Far)
These are the articles that got people reading, sharing, and commenting:
- At the Top of the list is still the “2024 Dividend Investment Review”

Coming in at the bottom of the Article List is: Debit vs. Credit Cards: What you need to know.

📉 What Hasn’t Worked So Well
- SEO is slow. Most of my traffic still comes from Facebook, not Google. That’s fine—I’m writing for people, not algorithms—but it’s something to improve.
- Email list growth is lagging. I just added a subscribe form in June. It’s an afterthought no longer—expect more direct updates soon.
- Passive income from the blog? Not yet. I’ve earned less than $10 from ads —barely enough for pizza. But that’s not the main point. Yet.
📈 What’s Working (And Why I’m Still Doing This)
- Writing consistently. Even with a full-time Army job and family life, I’ve stuck to publishing at least 10-12 times per month.
- Facebook engagement. Simple posts, money quotes, and honest comments resonate. Also, engaging with other groups to spread awareness.
- Being open and honest about everything from the Blog stats to my actual portfolio being published monthly.
My Main Pages seem to be working and filling the key areas of the website:
My Portfolio or “Freedom Fund” is popular. I post my actual Dividend Stock Portfolio and update it monthly.

🧭 What’s Next
- Email newsletter. A once-a-month digest with articles, dividend updates, and a personal note. (Still working a draft)
- “Freedom Fund” investing updates. Tracking my passive income journey, one dividend at a time.
- More personal finance explainers. Balancing the traditional with the tactical—debt, housing, career choices, and preparing for life after military service.
- A new series: “Shrinking Families, Growing Footprints.” Why life feels bigger but lonelier in modern America. (Coming soon.)
🙏 Final Thoughts
I started HomeAndPocket.com because I felt like personal finance—and life in general—was being hijacked by hype, gimmicks, and influencers pushing a lifestyle most families can’t relate to.
Six months in, I still believe there’s room for a different voice.
This blog won’t make headlines. It won’t go viral.
But it might help a young family pay off debt. Or help a single income household stretch farther. Or convince someone to invest their first $100.
That’s enough for me to keep going.
Thanks to everyone who’s followed, shared, or just read along.
